The right financing exists, you just have to know where to look. Select your profile:
As an employee, there are a number of ways in which you can finance an ICDL-certified training course, whether to enhance your skills, develop your career or retrain.
The good news is that these schemes are accessible, can often be combined, and can be used on your own initiative or with the support of your employer.
The CPF is one of the simplest and most accessible ways to finance ICDL certification.
All employees accumulate training rights every year (up to €500 or €800 per year, depending on your status).
You can use your CPF balance to finance ICDL certification training.
Your CPF allows you to finance your training, but did you know that your employer can also support you?
Why discuss it with him?
- It can top up your CPF: If your CPF balance is insufficient, your company can top up the funding to facilitate your access to training.
👉 Example: the employee has €400 on his CPF, the training costs €750 → the employer can top up the missing €350 directly.
- You can train on your own time: With your employer's agreement, your training can take place during working hours, without affecting your salary.
- Your training can be part of a company project. If your skills development also benefits the company, your employer has every interest in supporting you.

If you want to change profession or sector, the CPF de transition (transitional CPF) can be used to finance training leading to certification, including ICDL certification. It requires an application to be submitted via the Transition Pro system, with the employer's agreement (or not, depending on the type of leave requested).
Your employer can offer to finance training including ICDL certification as part of its skills development plan.
This can be done :
- On your own initiative (take advantage of your annual appraisal to discuss it)
- Company-initiated (the company can initiate a skills development plan)
Certification can be a good lever to support a change of position, an increase in skills or professional development.
The OPCOs help companies finance training for their employees.
If your employer is a VSE/SME (less than 50 employees), the OPCO can cover the cost of ICDL training and certification, as part of a funding application.
💡 Find out more from your HR department or directly on your OPCO's website.
ICDL certification can be integrated into a VAE program to enhance the digital skills acquired in the workplace.
Certain stages of the VAE process can be financed by the employer or via public schemes (notably via the CPF).
Depending on your situation, other assistance may be available:
- Civil service: the CPF for civil servants can be mobilized as part of a skills enhancement or mobility project.
- Disabled workers: AGEFIPH can help finance training courses leading to certification.
- Employees on integration schemes, SSE structures, associations: certain regional or sectoral schemes enable the financing of ICDL certifications.
As a student or trainee, you're never on your own when it comes to financing your ICDL certification. Assistance is available to help you develop your digital skills and enhance your career path.
Many institutions (universities, IUTs, schools) offer ICDL certification. Your school may already be an ICDL partner.
For more information, contact your school's Registrar's Office, Guidance Department or guidance teachers.
Some establishments use this contribution to finance certifications, notably as part of transversal UEs or skills workshops.
Financed by your employer's OPCO (if you are on a sandwich course) :
If you are on an apprenticeship or professionalization contract, your company's OPCO can pay for ICDL certification as part of its skills development plan.
Some centers already include ICDL certification in their courses. Don't hesitate to ask your training consultant.
If you are already in paid employment, you can consult your CPF balance at My Training Account and use it to finance certification training.
Region or department
Some regions offer specific assistance for young people in training, in the form of vouchers or passes (e.g. Pass Région, Pass Étudiant, etc.).
Mission Locale
If you are being monitored by a local mission, it can point you in the direction of funding schemes for training courses leading to qualifications that will help you find a job.
Start by asking your school if it already offers ICDL certification: this is often the case at IUTs, BTSs, universities or schools.
Alternatively, you can take the certification as an independent candidate by contacting a training organization.
Turn this time into an opportunity! There are several ways to finance your ICDL certification, to enhance your digital skills, boost your employability and set you apart on the job market.
France Travail can cover all or part of the cost of ICDL certification in several cases:
- As part of a training program (via AIF - Aide Individuelle à la Formation)
- As a complement to training provided by a partner organization
- On the recommendation of your advisor as part of your personalized employment access project (PPAE)
💡 Talk to your France Travail consultant! Don't hesitate to prepare a sales pitch highlighting how ICDL certification enhances your employability, adds value to your digital skills and helps you meet the demands of the job market.
Some of our certifications are eligible for the CPF! If you've already worked, you probably have CPF rights: a real lever to help you develop your skills and make concrete progress with your career plan.
Many regions and départements offer training grants for jobseekers, for example under the Plan Régional de Formation (PRF).
💡 Visit your regional council's website or ask your France Travail advisor or local mission to find out about the schemes available in your area.
If you are under 26 and are supported by a local mission, you can benefit from special funding or integration programs including certifications such as ICDL.
